Know Your Zone, Know Your Home — Florida’s Evacuation Lookup

Evacuation decisions get made badly under time pressure, usually because nobody looked anything up beforehand. Florida’s emergency management division built this to be checked in advance. Enter an address and it returns the evacuation zone, lettered A through F with A most exposed, so an order to evacuate zone A becomes immediately personal rather than abstract. It also handles the other half of the decision: if you are not in an ordered zone, it helps assess whether staying put is sound, and points to what makes a house more survivable in wind and heavy rain. Look it up once and write the zone letter somewhere the whole household can find it.
